Taylor), 2 pages with docketed integral blank, two ink blots to lower panel of final blank page with resultant loss of lower gutter corner from ink acid burn, not affecting text, 4to (Qty: 1) The letter, to an unnamed recipient, is an example of how patronage worked at high levels in the army of the time. The Duke offers to use his influence with the King to advance the career of Captain Montgomery, of the 4th Regiment, [son of Sir John Montgomery, Chief Baron of Scotland]. William Montgomery indeed became Lieutenant Colonel of the 43rd (Monmouthshire) Regiment but died in 1800.
