Report of the Committee to the Subscibers of the Emin Pasha Relief Fund, circa 1890, 115 pp., ink and pencil corrections, loose 4 pp. folded typescript text, original purple wrappers (upper wrapper detached and used in place of title page) bound-in original limp cloth (faded), contained in a modern dropover box, 8vo Provenance: Sir George Sutherland Mackenzie (1844-1910), his signature and corrections, upper wrapper inscribed 'Proof only' and 'Confidential'. IMPORTANT ASSOCIATION COPY OF THE UNPUBLISHED REPORT ON THE EMIN PASHA RELIEF EXPEDITION. Sir George Mackenzie was a member of the Relief Committee and explains on the upper wrapper verso the reasons why the report was suppressed-mainly Stanley's objections to some of the remarks contained in chapter VI. Mackenzie wrote the proposed four page typescript alteration, at Stanley's suggestion, to be substituted for the present chapter VI, 'The Chapters in Connection with the Rear Column'. Additionally, there is a three page autograph letter tipped-in at front from Henry Curtis (Lady Stanley's second husband) dated August 1910, thanking Sir George for the loan of the work and hoping he will place the report in the library of the British Museum. 1910.
