A "private" silver medal of a Jewish soldier in the 38 Batallion of the Royal Fusiliers (one of the Jewish Legions which operated in the British Army during World War I). [ca. 1919]. A 20 Piasters Ottoman coin was used in preparing the medal. One of its sides was smoothed and on it were engraved the name and rank of the soldier (L/Cp1 J. Levine), the emblem of the "Royal Fusiliers" (on its lower part a Star of David with the word "Zion", surrounded by the motto "Honisoit qui mal y pense" [May he be shamed who thinks badly of it]), and the inscriptions "Palestine 1917-19" and "38th R.F.". Diameter: 40 mm. Two "handles" are soldered to the margins.
