(11 5/8 x 8¼ in.), 18th-century vellum over pasteboard, edges blue-sprinkled, title gilt-lettered on spine, lacking dd4 blank, first title lightly stained, 1½ in. tear to A3, very occasional browning, small faint dampstain to lower margins in latter half of text . 2 parts in one, titles with engraved vignettes incorporating printers' device, 64 engraved maps by Girolamo Porro consisting of a small folding double-hemisphere world map and 63 half-page maps, including 3 further world maps, woodcut diagrams in text, woodcut initials and ornaments. Second edition of Leonardo Cernoti's translation of Magini's edition of Ptolemy, an exact reprint of the 1597-98 edition from the same press. Porro's small engraved maps were first printed in quarto format in the original Latin edition of Magini's version (Venice: Galignani 1596); this is their sixth appearance in print, following the Latin editions of 1597 (see preceding lot), 1608 and 1617 and the aforementioned 1597-98 Italian edition.
