PURDY, Ken (1913-1972). An extensive archive of correspondence of Ken Purdy to Playboy , 1956-1971, approximately 200 typed and 8 autograph letters signed, most to A.C. Spectorsky, some to Hugh Hefner and Murray Fisher. Together approximately 220 pages . With a large amount of related carbon and typed correspondence from Playboy. Although best remembered as a writer on automobiles, and for whom there is a writing award named in his honor, was also one of the most prolific contributors to Playboy . He was a fine writer whose main interest happened to be autos and the people who drove them. Among other things, he produced 35 short stories and about double that number of automotive pieces for Playboy . He won Playboy 's annual writers' award three times. His Kings of the Road , published in 1949, is still a landmark. His correspondence to Playboy covers a large portion of his career and discusses his writing, the magazine and its contributors.
