A piece of history that may have been lost ! Early in his artistic career PURE EVIL graffitied his craft under the Westway flyover in London in early 21st century . Just as British rock bands. The Clash referred to the road in "London's Burning". The Sound of the Westway, the cover for The Jam's 1977 album, Blur's 1993 song "For Tomorrow" mentions that the protagonist couple in the song are "lost on the Westway" and Hawkwind played several free benefit and charity concerts underneath the West Way. Edition : numbered 5/20 in stencil, pencil and watercolour Print size : 8 9/10 × 26 1/5 in or 22.7 × 66.5 cm COA : Yes from Brandler Gallery Condition Report – Print stored in picture frame Framed : Yes size: 35 x 79cm About The ART and the ARTIST The COA : This piece was also shown on the BBC News at 6 On Tuesday 14th August 2012 Early in Charles Uzzell-Edwards career the artist PURE EVIL graffitied his craft under the Westway flyover in London in early 21st century. To paint PURE EVIL the brand, a cherry picker was used to reach the underside of the carriageway to advertise his now Trade Mark brand PURE EVIL. Knowing that there was a possibility that some of his inaugural and early Graffiti work would be painted over Charles immediately created 20 stencil, and hand-painted twenty faithful copies of the original. Each piece signed with the PURE EVIL trade mark moniker and Titled ‘Study for the Westway’. And, comes with a COA from the renowned Brandler Gallery. The Westway is a 2.5-mile (4 km) elevated dual carriageway section of the A40 trunk road in West London running from Paddington in the east to North Kensington in the west. It connects the London Inner Ring Road to the West London suburbs. Other ARTISTS work the Westway and the Westway has featured in songs by several British rock bands. The Clash referred to the road in "London's Burning". The Sound of the Westway, the cover for The Jam's 1977 album, Blur's 1993 song "For Tomorrow" mentions that the protagonist couple in the song are "lost on the Westway", and the road is mentioned in two other songs by the band, "Fool's Day" and "Under the Westway". Dirty Pretty Things refer to the Westway in the song "Truth Begins"; the opening lyrics are "The Westway walls so tall and bleak / Reflect the words we dare not speak". Local group Hawkwind played several free benefit and charity concerts underneath the motorway Charles Uzzell-Edwards produces Pop-inspired prints and street art under the moniker Pure Evil. The U.K.-born and -based artist’s vibrant, stencilled, spray-paint figurations riff on distinctly American iconography such as the Statue of Liberty and on Andy Warhol subjects such as Marilyn Monroe Elvis Presley, and Elizabeth Taylor. Many of his portraits feature a signature splotch of paint, which drips like a tear just below the character’s eye. Pure Evil’s path to artmaking was long and varied. As the son of Welsh painter John Uzzell Edwards he grew up in a creative household. After studying fashion and graphics in college, he worked as a clothing designer and recorded electronic music. Pure Evil finally arrived at street art while living in California, where he honed his practice across freeways and storefronts. The artist has since exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, and elsewhere. He also sells his work through Pure Evil Gallery, which he founded in London.
