Putto à l'horloge en porcelaine, Meissen, circa 1940 A Meissen figure of a putto with clock, circa 1940Modelled by Paul Scheurich seated on drapery shaded in puce on a green cushion with moulded trellis pattern with gilt dots over a stepped and shaped rectangular plinth moulded at the front with coloured flowers, leaning on a marbled spherical clock case with moulded gilt Arabic numerals, holding a flute and with a sheet of music (inscribed 'WA Mozart') on the cushion, wearing a yellow hat with coloured cockade and flowers at the back, 36.5cm high; 23.5cm across, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue to rear of plinth, impressed model number P 265 and former's number 39, painter's number 32 in greyFootnotesProvenance: Private Collection, Saxony Exhibited: Meissen, Museum der Meissen Porzellan-Stiftung, Paul Scheurich Porzellangestalter Zeichner Grafiker, 6 March 2020-21 February 2021 Scheurich modelled this group in 1937-38 and delivered it to the manufactory in 1938, though at the time the Saxon Economic Ministry's antipathy to Scheurich's designs meant that it could not immediately be purchased. Wolfgang Müller von Baczko was permitted to purchase it only in October 1939, and then only with an amended contract that excluded Scheurich from receiving any royalties. It was first produced in porcelain in 1940 (Rafael 1995a, no. 63).
