Peters, Works on Paper, exh. cat., New York: Spanierman Gallery, 2008, 32-3 color illus., no. 14 Although de Longpre probably did not leave his native France, his work was exhibited in America through the efforts of his younger brother Paul, who emigrated to this country in 1890. Among his favorite formats is that in this gouache, in which cut flowers are arranged on a stone plinth, with a few branches and blossoms spilling over the edge to add a trompe l'oeil effect. Gouache was de Longpre's preferred medium. His ability to use it with both precision and delicacy may be seen in this work. C The Spanierman Gallery, LLC
Toned. Matburn. There is some wear to the edges. There is an old crease in the upper right corner.
