RARE D-DAY SECRET INVASION PLANS.Group of Operation Neptune documents issued to a U.S. Naval officer in preparation for the D-Day landings: 1. Neptune Monograph. Prepared by Commander, Task Force 122, April 1944. Folio, 3-ring bound with wire loops, blue paper wrappers marked Top Secret Bigot, stamped with registration number 388. Contains 44 leaves of text with photos and tables, and 13 folding folio sheets with maps, ship profiles and other details. Browning and some stains, cover and first few text pages detached from ring binding, tape repairs on verso of some maps. 2. Operation "Neptune" Force "L" Operation Orders. Folio, bound at top with two-prong report clip, paper wrappers marked Copy No. 217, with penciled notation "Com. Group Fifty." Foxing, light staining, edges rubbed, minor chipping to wrappers. 3. COMINCH P-006, Amphibious Operations, Invasion of Northern France Western Task Force, June 1944. Published by United States Fleet, Headquarters of the Commander in Chief. 4to. Staple-bound paper wrappers, printed Secret at the top and This publication and the information contained herein must not fall into the hands of the enemy, and ink-stamped Confidential at the top left. Browning and spotting, slight tearing to edges of front wrapper. 4. Report binder, 4to, with metal two-prong report clips front and back, card covers, stamped Secret twice on front cover, with inked name of Commander Lovell, Commander LST Group 50. Contains reports, updates, memos, and service records covering Cmdr. Lovell's career from Annapolis in the 1930s through the late 1940s. Together with a string tag with a stamp of the Inter-Service Topographical Dept., inked name of Lt. Cdr. E.W. Hunt, USN, stamp in red ink: Do not open until receipt of signal - Open on one, and inked marking "Com LST Grp 50." Provenance: Commander Royal Lovell, USN, Commander of LST Group 50 during the D-Day invasion. RARE COLLECTION OF PRIMARY D-DAY MATERIALS FROM THE COMMANDER OF LST GROUP 50, ROYAL LOVELL, WHO CONTRIBUTED THE LYRICS FOR THE THIRD VERSE OF "ANCHORS AWEIGH." Commander Royal Lovell led LST Group 50 ("Landing Ship Tank") during the Allied attack on the beaches of Normandy. Lovell had previously made U.S. Naval history when he penned the third verse of the Naval anthem, "Anchors Aweigh" as a midshipman (class of 1926): "Blue of the Seven Seas; Gold of God's great sun Let these our colors be Till all of time be done-n-n-ne, By Severn shore we learn Navy's stern call: Faith, courage, service true With honor over, honor over all."
