(6½x3½") early full vellum lettered and decorated by hand on spine, speckled edges. First Edition. "The work by Dufour upon coffee, tea and chocolate is a classic. It is the standard reference for the early history and methods of preparation" (Bitting). "Like sugar in the two previous centuries, the new drinks [coffee, tea, and chocolate] were first classified as medicines, and their reputed curative properties only added to their exotic appeal." (Willan & Cherniavsky, p. 138).This work went through several editions in French, Latin and English. It is also cited in Sabin (No. 21146) for containing material on natural history in America.
