Early American edition of the British-American novelist's most famous work, sometimes published as Charlotte Temple. The book went through some 200 printings, and was the most popular best-seller in American literature until Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin was published serially in 1851-1852. The copy evidently lacking a leaf at the beginning, but seems textually complete, the first leaf present being the title. There are no free endpapers. Ownership signature at top of title. OCLC lists only one copy of this edition, at the British Library.
