First edition. – One of 50 copies of the edition-de-luxe on large and heavy Whatman paper with an extra suite of 44 proof engravings before letters of the landscape views on China. – 3 vols. With 3 engr. vignettes, 60 (3 fold.) engr. plates, 8 fold. engr. maps and plans. Contemp. green full morocco, richly gilt, a.e.g. (edges and hinges rubbed, some staining, front hinge of vol. 1 slightly burst). – Text-blocks a bit wavy. About 20 text-leaves in vol. 2 with dampstains. In the other volumes a few leaves, mainly first and last leaves, with some staining. Plates in general clean. Endpapers stained, the 2 free endpapers in vol. 1 loose. 1 map loose. Otherwise a very good copy of this imposing set (each volume weighing ca. 6.5 kg).
