ROBERTO CLEMENTE'S GAME USED BATTING HELMET

Schätzpreis
15.000 $ - 20.000 $
Zuschlagspreis:
32.200 $
Beschreibung:

Roberto Clemente's Game Used Batting Helmet In the 1960's, Henry Mullen's company had box seats to Forbes Field and he frequently took in Pirates games. During one particular game, Roberto Clemente struck out to end the inning and disgustedly threw his helmet. But, instead of rolling into the dugout, it skidded over the top of the dugout roof and onto Henry's lap. A couple of innings later, when Clemente emerged to the on deck circle, Henry yelled out to Clemente, asking if he wanted his helmet back. Per Henry, Clemente yelled back, in broken English, "No, keep it." For forty years, the helmet has been part of the Mullen family. Inside is an "American Baseball Cap" label stamped size "7 1/4" and the foam rubber disk has "21" hand written in black magic marker. There is overall wear and rubbing consistent with use. Included with the helmet is an LOA from Henry Mullen detailing the story of how the helmet came to him in the 1960's.
