ROOSEVELT, FRANKLIN D., President. A pair of spectacles belongling to Roosevelt (and apparently worn) by him while in office as President. Approximately 100 x 35 mm., consisting of two glass lenses joined by a metal bridge piece with rubber nose cushioning; enclosed in a velvet-lined clamshell case, with a lense cloth bearing the imprint of Mayflower Optical Co., all apparently in very good condition. [Accompanied with:] A typed letter signed from H.G. Crim, Chief Usher of the White House during F.D.R.'s term, to Mr. Lawrence Engleman of the Mayflower Optical Company, Washington, D.C., regarding the glasses. Washington, D.C. 26 February 1941. One page, small 4to, mounted on board, some overall light browning. "Dear Mr. Engleman: As per our phone conversation of a few moments ago, there is handed you herewith a pair of The President's Glasses for the installation of a new left lens. Kindly phone me the instant they are completed that I may send for them... H.G. Crim." [And:] Partly printed check accomplished in manuscript and signed by F.D.R.'s attorney, M.A. LeHand (and additionally by him as "Franklin D. Roosevelt"). New York, 13 May 1941. Oblong 12mo, drawin from his account at Guaranty Trust Company of New York; matted. A check for $7.50 payable to Mayflower Optical Co. (presumably for work done on Roosevelt's specs). (3)
