First Edition in Latin (an edition in German was published by Froschauer in Zurich in the same year), translated by Wolfgang Haller, 66 woodcut illustrations, seven of them full-page, including the cut on the verso of the title-leaf showing a birthing room; the remaining illustrations are of reproductive organs, surgical instruments and freaks of nature; last leaf blank. Garrison and Morton 463 ("This is an improved version of Rösslin's Der swangern frawen. Its importance to the embryologist lies in Rueff's illustrations, which show contemporary ideas about mammalian embryology") and 6141 ("Rueff described smooth and toothed forceps for extraction of the dead foetus."); NLM/Durling 3980.
