Beschreibung:

Russell (George) ‘AE’. ALs., 1 pp, on ‘Irish Homestead’ Notepaper, circa 1917, to Miss Yeats [probably Elizabeth Corbet, proprietor of the Cuala Press], apparently responding to an offer of unused canvases, stretchers and easels [presumably left by Miss Yeats’ father John Butler Yeats on his departure for America]. He asks her to send a small sample of one of the canvases to see whether he could use it; ‘if I can I will pay whatever price is current for the canvas’. The easels would be no use as he has one. ‘I am horribly busy at the moment with [Irish] Convention business & Susan [Mitchell, his assistant] away, but things won’t be so bad I hope in another ten or fourteen days’. Signed with his monogram. As a m/ss. (1) Russell was a regular attender at the Irish Convention, chaired by Horace Plunkett, which sought to find a way forward in Irish political affairs. The Yeats family was probably short of money due to wartime conditions which interrupted their usual trade.
