Lugd. Bat.. an: 1699" on front free endpaper, an excellent clean copy in contemporary vellum, yapp edges, a little rubbed and soiled, [Atabey 1200; cf. Blackmer 1631], 12mo, [Amsterdam], suivant la Copie Imprimée à Paris, 1679. ⁂ Part III of Les Six Voyages de Jean Baptiste Tavernier, also issued separately; according to Atabey this edition was probably a piracy. Tavernier made six voyages to Persia, India, the East Indies and Japan between 1643 and 1668, acquiring vast quantities of jewels in the process and developing French trade in Asia. The plates of Tonkin (now part of northern Vietnam) depict costumes, a theatre, temples and various processions by the king including a funeral.
