Contemporary calf, red morocco lettering piece (soiled, rubbed at extremities). Atlas with 51 engraved plates, profiles and maps by Ivan and Konstantin Cheskii and others, 2 folding (the last laid down with small tears repaired, one plate with right-hand margin trimmed to image, a few minor tears). Contemporary half calf (lacks spine, worn and loose). Provenance : Accession numbers on title of vol.I; illegible signature on upper margin of first plate. Sarychev (1763-1811) undertook his voyages of discovery on the coasts of eastern Siberia, Okhotsk and Kamchatka and across the north Pacific to the Aleutian Islands and Alaska from 1785 to 1793 with Captain Billings. According to Lada-Mocarski 57 'this is one of the fundemental and very rare early books on the Aleutian Islands'.
