Johnston, for $43.34 in the capture of the vessels Tennessee and Selma during his service on the U.S.S. Brooklyn. Signed by Captain G. M. Collier, as acting commander of the U.S. Marine Corps, undated other than 1864. An exceptionally scarce bit of Civil War ephemera, as there were less than 4000 Marines authorized for service. Johnson (here listed "Johnston")enlisted on April 16, 1864, and is included on the muster roll of the Brooklyn. The Brooklyn played a key role in Farragaut's assault on Mobile Bay, later that August, and it was here that Johnson earned is reward for the capture of the Confederate ships. Condition: VG+.
