First edition. Folio, tall copy. [2], 1-14, [1] pp. Illustrated with an engraved portrait frontispiece by P. Lombart after P. Lilly, and five full page engravings. Title-page printed in red and black, five-line passage printed in red on p.12. Modern full brown sheep, morocco spine label, occasionally scuffed, extremities rubbed, boards bowed; all edges untrimmed; old manuscript shelf-mark at top margin of title-page, light stain at center of same from removal of old ink stamp, some soiling to margins of same, light foxing to title-page and prelims, other scattered light foxing and occasional marginal dust smudging in text. Wing M 2783; ESTC R30065. Sir Samuel Morland, 1st Baronet (1625-1695), was an English diplomat, spy, inventor, and mathematician. He was appointed "Master of Mechanics" by King Charles II in 1681.
