FIRST EDITION OF "AN EXHAUSTIVE ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF CONTEMPORARY BELIEFS ABOUT WITCHCRAFT, SPIRITS, ALCHEMY, MAGIC AND LEGERDEMAIN" (DNB). Scot rejected contemporary beliefs in witchcraft as being unsupportable either by reason or by religion. His work stirred a great deal of interest, both supportive and condemnatory. James I, on his accession to the throne of England, ordered that all copies be burnt. STC 21864; Norman 1915.
