Seder Chinuch Ben Yehudit, booklet 1 – Public appeal for establishment of ‘educational institution for Jewish youth’ with ‘treasury of Jewish books’. Oradea-Mare [Grosswardein], [1920]. Stencil of photocopy of manuscript. Enthusiastic appeal for establishment of apolitical “educational institution” in which Torah would be studied in the Hebrew language, in accordance with an organized progressive program. The writer bases this upon instruction of the Sages ‘At the age of five years one should study the Scriptures, at ten the Mishnah…” and he quotes various sources supporting the system. The writer debates with opposers to his system and criticizes the present situation in the community. “… what will be with all students of the seminar? What will become of all students whose main focus is the study of folklore and are satisfied with a bit of scripture under the guise of reverence of G-d? … the community is not poor and there are plenty of funds available for the establishment of an educational institution for Jewish youth… where G-d-fearing teachers will speak only Hebrew… because speaking in Hebrew is a Mitzvah…”. Booklet signed “on behalf of natives of city, 'Jövendo’ editorial staff… 1920…”. Jövendo was a Jewish periodical in Hungarian language, published by association for settlement of Eretz Israel in the city, edited by Rabbi Shlomo Fuchs. [Stamps of periodical]. Booklet, [32] pages. 23 cm. Good condition, few stains and tears. Detached leaves. Bibliographically unknown booklet.
