Title: Series of three Autograph Letters signed by Samuel Wade, to Dulana Woods, regarding a runaway slave Bob Author: Wade, Samuel Place: Troy, Obion County, Tennessee Publisher: Date: 1855 Description: Includes: Feb. 20, 1855, 17 lines on 7¾x8 sheet of lined paper, folded to form its own cover: “Dear friend…Bob has run of from me and you will pleas keepe alookout for him and oblige your friend and I will give 25 dollars for him or lodged in jaile so as I can get him agin pleas advertise him 4 or 5 times in your papers and send tha claims her and I will pay them off… N.B. if you come across him take him or kil him in his track…” * April 27, 1855, 35 lines on 12½x7¾ sheet of lined paper, with cover: “…I will try to put you in the [??] to catch that scoundrel I will not sent you the 25 dollars as I am intirely out at this time I have gotten of apart of my crop and the ballenc is hanging un our barns as yet too dry to handle when I get tha money for it I will have money aplenty to pay all my demands it has been the worst season to work with tobacco the I ever saw… Tell the old man to send him home and I will not strike him on sick if he will be have him self better then he has that negro has given me more incelence then all the negroes iene around in my life…” * May 10, 1855, 20 lines on 12x7½ sheet of plain paper, with cover: “…you rite to me that bob has come in to you and is anctious to come home you will pleas higher him out to the best advantage to pay expenses thar is several of my neighbers will be in your countey in afew weekes and I will give them an order for him and he can come down with them and by his good behaveyer I will look some what over this nothing more at this time…” Together, 3 letters.
