The earlier part of the letter (not present) gives a humorous account of the progress of the healing of her leg, for which Madame de Grignan has sent a special ointment. The complete letter is published in the Correspondance , ed. R. Duchêne (Pléiade, 1978, III, no. 903 and notes). The leaves were dispersed, probably during the 19th century -- the present fragment was in the collection of Héricourt, bishop of Autun (1797-1851).
