Sgt. William Warren A collection of documents and photographs relating to William Warren of Fairview Strand, Dublin, a former British soldier who later joined the IRA and the Free State Army, including - his discharge certificate from the Royal Irish Fusiliers after 7 years service, 5.8.1920, rank of Private, with a few photographs relating to his British Army service abroad; - a TLS to Sgt. Warren from Divisional Intelligence Dept. (Free State Army), 8 Sept. 1922, asking for details of a shooting incident; with a 2 pp ms. draft of Sgt. Warren's report headed 'Shooting in Capel Street of armed civilian'; - A few documents relating to an IRA pension application from William Warren with a photocopy of a testimonial to his IRA service from Thomas Clarke Old 'B' Coy 2nd Batt. Old IRA dated 3.5. (19)41, mentioning his assistanc e with intelligence; - A folder containing typescript lists of 'Prisoners in confinement over 21 days' (apparently in RIC or British custody), dated June 1921, one list including Arthur Griffiths [sic] and E.J. Duggan; also photocopies of a typescript list headed 'Customs House Arrests. Nominal Roll', listing some 90 names, most with addresses; and a few other documents. It is not clear how these last documents came to be in Sgt. Warren's possession, but they appear to be authentic. Arthur Griffith was arrested in December 1920 and held until July 1921; about 80 members of the IRA's Dublin Brigade were arrested after the burning of the Custom House in May 1921.
