Provenance : Charles Thomas Spedding (PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION FROM SHACKLETON, dated 1921.) LIMITED EDITION, number 103 of 300 copies, the supplement SIGNED BY EACH MEMBER OF THE SHORE PARTY. Vol.I additionally inscribed "To C. T. Spedding with ever kind thoughts from E. H. Shackleton March 1921." Spedding was a shipmate of Shackleton's before the 1914-18 war, and he contributed to his exploration funds. Spedding worked for the Cunard Line (he was Commodore Purser on the Aquitania for a while) and rose to Commander in the Royal Navy during the 1914-18 war. (3)
