SHAW, George Bernard (1856-1950). Autograph postcard signed ('G. Bernard Shaw') to C. Delisle Burns, Great Malvern, 26 July 1932, 'What a feat of compression! All Karl Marx in fourteen lines. Decidedly one up for Campanella. Many thanks for thinking of me', the image on the postcard depicting George Bernard Shaw seated at his desk, glasses in hand, signed under the image 'G. Bernard Shaw'. This postcard was written whilst staying at the Malvern Hotel just prior to the opening of the Malvern Festival in 1932, when the British premier of Too True to be Good took place. The Festival was founded by Barry Jackson in 1929 and was initially dedicated to the works of George Bernard Shaw. By 1931, works by other dramatists were included and the festival was soon established as a major dramatic event and showcase for new writers. Shaw himself visited the festival regularly until 1937.
