Original boards, uncut (neatly rebacked preserving the majority of the original spine label, front inner hinge repaired). Very rare at auction. First edition, but in fact a reissue, as the advertisement leaf explains, "The Designs in small are nearly all the Plates which belonged to the Cabinet Directory, published in octavo; the larger plates and Designs were published under the title of the Cabinet Encyclopedia, in folio... it was thought, that by blending the two publications together, an elegant and extensive set of Designs would be formed... It being understood that many persons were desirous of purchasing the plates without the letter-press... more being deemed unnecessary in the present matured state of the manufacturers." The work was originally published at £3.13s.6d.
