Sefer Torat Kohanim, Shulchan Aruch Choshen Mishpat, with commentary Me’irat Einayim and Siftei Kohen. Fürth, [1691-1692]. Ownership notations and signatures as well as birth listings from 18th century: “Simcha known as Bunim son of Rabbi Yitzchak Shalit…”; “belongs to the exceptional Rabbi Chaim”; “this book belongs to the esteemed Rabbi Chaim Av Beit Din of congregation of Miestetz”. Glosses by several writers from that period on margins of sheets. Last leaf contains wording of bill of transaction with addition of laws. This copy was presented as a wedding gift to Rabbi Shmuel Kauder Av Beit Din of Prague, who signs several times throughout the book, and states: “This book… has been given to me as a gift by my close friends, exalted and exceptional…”. A list of 19 names appears; apparently referring to his classmates from the Yeshiva in Prague or Kelin. Rabbi Shmuel Kauder (1766-1838), “The Ga’on of Prague”, prominent disciple of Rabbi Michael Bacharach Av Beit Din of Prague and later on disciple of Rabbi Elazar Kalir author of Or Chadash in Kelin. Closely associated with Rabbi Betzalel Rensburg and member of his Beit Din in Prague. Resided in Kalady and from 1812 served as Av Beit Din of communities of Tábor and Budweis in Bohemia. In 1835 was appointed as chief Av Beit Din of community of Prague, taught Torah and was known as a prominent rabbinical authority. From his many compositions only Olat Shmuel Responsa (on section Orach Chaim), Sefer Ahavat Emet (sermons) and Sefer Zichron BaSefer (on tractate Megillah) were printed.
