Shvilei Emunah, ten paths in faith and study, Rabbi Meir Aldabi (the doctor). Amsterdam, 1627. Written in the colophon at the end of the book: "…this work … is the first fruits of printing in this city…". However, it appears to be the second book printed in Amsterdam (printed Nissan-Av 1627), Sefer HaYir'ah, printed by Menashe ben Yisrael in the previous Tevet, preceded it. Until then the printing presses in Amsterdam had only produced missionary books. Rabbi Meir Aldabi (born in 1310; Otzar HaRabbanim 12763), of the great sages of Toledo. Grandson of the Ro"sh. Emigrated to Jerusalem c. 1360. Owners' signatures: "Ya'akov Kara", "Shlomo Zalman of Lessli", "Yekutiel, ben Yitzchak..", "Yitzchak, ben Gamliel of Pruss", "this book… belongs… in honor of our father, Rabbi Aryeh Yehudah Leib Karo, Rabbi of Lesslo" [author of "Eyl Hamilu'im", Krotoszyn 1845] and others. 118 leaves. 19 cm. Good-fair condition. Moth damage and small tears (some restored). Stains. Ink-stamp of the Censor. New leather binding. From Dr. Israel Mehlman's private collection.
