Artist's book. 8 wood engravings by Richard Wagener mounted onto an accordion structure of handmade Elephant Grey paper from Papeterie Saint-Armand, Montreal. Images: 12.8x7.7 cm (5x3"); sheets: 16x9 cm (6¼x3½"); mounted: 18x9.5 cm (7x3¾"). Presented in publisher's orange slipcase with paper label also made from paper from Saint-Armand. No. 19 of an edition limited to 25 copies. Signed and numbered by Richard Wagener, a witness to the morphology and flowering of the amaryllis. The flower is a lovely winter-bloom natural specimen but is also significant in the language of flowers. Amaryllis, a nymph from Greek mythology, in love with the haughty shepherd Alteo pierced her heart with a golden arrow at the behest of the oracle at Delphi. From her heart's blood sprang the amaryllis. In a somewhat comic mode, the myth tells us that this act was repeated every day for a month.
