He often affectionately nicknamed Jacki 'Ragamuffin' and in this loving drawing he exaggerates his son's features, in particular his cheeks and mouth suggesting in him a sense of vagabond naughtiness and mischief. The drawing relates to a series of four portraits of Jackie dating 1935-1942 from the collection of the renowned buyer of his works, Edward Schinman.
