McDade and Nancy Ann McDade, his wife, formerly widow of G.W. Johnson decd. for and in consideration of the filial feeling, good will and respect which we have unto and towards James Henry and George Ann Johnson, heirs of G.W. Johnson decd. and in further consideration of the sum of ten dollars to us in hand...do hereby grant, five, bargain....unto the said James Henry and George Ann Johnson the following property, viz. - one Negro woman named Catharine about twenty four years of age. Also one Girl named Elizabeth about four years of age. Also one girl named Lydia about two years of age." At some point one or more of these parties moves to Texas. Then a dispute arises, the nature of which is not clear, but a Rufus Penn, husband of George Ann Johnson Penn appears as an additional party in depositions dated 1857 and 1859.
