Contemporary red levant morocco, gilt, by Bayntun (Riviere), covers decorated with elaborate strapwork borders enclosing central arms of Napoleon, spines gilt in six compartments, lettered in two, others with napoleonic motifs, gilt edges, (covers of two volumes lightly ink stained). A fine de-luxe issue of Sloane's accomplished life of Napoleon, extravagantly bound and profusely extra-illustrated with military costume prints, views of Europe and various battle sites including many aquatint plates by Bowyer, portraits of his court and generals, and related pictorial memorabilia of Napoleon and his circle.
