Provenance : Gros de Boze (sale 1753, lot 2526); Girardot de Préfond, second collection (leather booklabel; sold en bloc in 1789 to:) MacCarthy-Reagh (sale 1825, lot 5273); Charles Chardin; Joseph Martini; Lucius Wilmerding (bookplate; sale, Part III, Parke-Bernet, 31 October 1951, lot 855); A.L. McLaughlin (sale, 1980, lot 1500, to Breslauer). The second edition of the catalogue of the incunabula belonging to Joseph Smith, British Consul at Venice, listing 248 items, of which only a few copies were printed. The first edition, also without place and date of printing (but "Padua, Tipografia Volpi-Cominiana, 1724" according to Stuart Morrison), had only 62 pp. and listed 227 incunables; fifty copies were printed. Smith's collection was eventually (in 1762) purchased by George III and now forms part of the British Library.
