Smith patent breech loading carbine, .50 caliber, manufactured by the American Machine Works, Springfield Massachusetts, stamped on receiver Address Poultney & Trimble Baltimore USA - Smiths Patent June 23rd, 1857, with a walnut stock with JH cartouche, folding leaf rear sight, 21" octagonal to round barrel. SN# 3885 Condition: Poor overall condition, missing finger piece on opening lever, mainspring broken, poor bore, missing saddle ring, 4" crack from receiver back on both sides at wrist, stock in poor condition, missing hammer screw and bolster cleanout.
