Place: New York Publisher: Date: May 12, 1825 Description: 1-page letter + 1-page printed text, each signed by Conant, on conjugate lettersheet. Quarto. The printed notice reads in part, "From a belief that there exists in this country ample materials for making a volume of select and genuine specimens of Indian Oratory, the writer of this notice has undertaken the task of collecting, arranging and publishing, whatever he may deem to the honour, or illustrative of the character and talents of the Aborigines of North America..." In his letter to O'Fallon, Conant is more specific in his needs: "I see by the public print that you are soon to attend an important Indian treaty & I write to request your attention to the annexed printed sheet. Your have already preserved many valuable specimens of native Indian oratory, & you may on the occasion referred to as pending, have further opportunity to do justice to the oratorical powers of the western Indians..."
