SOUTH AFRICA Two Zulu bead ornaments: a panel of six cylinders covered in geometric design of red, blue, black and white beads, conical metal fasteners; and a loom-beaded panel in beads of similar colours on beaded suspension loop, 13 3/8in. (340mm.) and 28in. (712mm.) long. A Zulu fly whisk, the shaft bound with woven copper wire, inset with short metal blade serrated on each side, animal hair whisk; together with four Zulu snuff bottles comprising a horn double bottle of crescent form, the two halves joined by four pierced and paired ovals; two spherical gourd bottles with inset geometric ornament in metal wire; and a gourd bottle within lattice of coloured beads, 2¾in. (7cm.) to 5½in. (14cm.) high. A small collection of Zulu objects, some possibly acquired in 1877, others most certainly in 1892 or on his final trip to South Africa in 1898. This and the following two lots show Stanley's interest in a wide range of African tribal objects. (7)
