Half-title, list of subscribers, 5 engraved plates of which 3 folding, 2 leaves of explanation and observation on the plates. (A few scattered spots, clean tear to T3.) 19th-century red straight-grained half morocco, gilt spine and title on front cover, yellow edges (lightly rubbed). Provenance : Charles William Vane, 3rd marquess of Londonderry (1778-1854, army officer and diplomatist; engraved bookplate).

Speechly, an agriculturist born near Peterborough, Northamptonshire, was mainly known for his skill in growing pineapples and grapes. In 1779 he issued a treatise on the Culture of the Pine Apple which was followed in 1790 by the present work. BMC, vol 23, p. 1128 (235).
