.45-70 caliber, 24.5" barrel (cut down), S/N 245892. Barrel marked VP over eagle head proof, and P and R. The lockplate is marked U.S. Springfield with an eagle. The breechblock is marked U.S. Model 1878. Walnut stock with SWP 1883 cartouche and circle P firing proof. The barrel has a Buffington sight. With newer canvas sling. Condition: The barrel retains most of its original blue finish, with some light areas of spotting. The breechblock has a mostly grey patina, with light case colors remaining. The hammer and lock plate have a faded blue patina. The stock has several nicks and dings, but is in good overall condition. The bore is in very good condition.
