Stevenson owned this collection of works by two of the Romantic essayists, in his nineteenth year. He wrote himself an index of his favourite essays on the front endpaper. BM 12354 and 10856. Provenance : Katherine de Mattos (title inscribed 'K. de Mattos', and by Stevenson, 'R. L. S.'). Stevenson gave this copy of his work on his native town to his cousin, to whom he dedicated his Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1886). McKay 24.
