Beschreibung:

STROZZI, Giambattista. Orazioni et altre prose . Rome: Lodovico Grignani, 1635. 4°. Engraved title, typographic and woodcut head- and tail-pieces, ornamental initials. (Some light browing, heavier in about 7 quires.) Contemporary flexible vellum panelled in gilt, central and corner devices in gilt, painted Strozzi arms at centre of both covers, flat spine gilt with Strozzi crescents, gilt edges (endpapers renewed). Provenance : Strozzi family (binding); Piero Ginori Conti (bookplate). Renowned for his erudition and eloquence, Strozzi enjoyed the patronage of Ferdinand and Cosimo de' Medici, as well as Pope Urban VIII. Posthumously published by his son, this collection brings together his orations in praise of Maria de' Medici, the Doge of Venice, Pietro Angeli da Barga, and others, as well as discourses on the madrigal and heroic poetry. It is very likely that this is the EDITOR'S COPY, with the Strozzi arms and device on the binding. Gamba 1666.
