Title within woodcut border. (Title-page remargined along gutter, final text leaf with repair along top margin affecting some letters, a few leaves with minor repairs.) 20th century brown morocco gilt, edges gilt by Riviere and Son; morocco pull off case. Provenance : Edgar F. Leo (bookplate); Harold Greenhill (bookplate); David and Lulu Borowitz (bookplate; their sale Sotheby's New York, 15 November 1977, lot 245). THE GREENHILL-BOROWITZ COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION: the first complete English translation of Tasso's Gerusalemme Liberata , "done into English heroicall verse," with a cancel pasted over the first stanza of the poem on B1 (Pforzheimer's second state). Pforzheimer 1001; STC 23698.
