Hecksher 1059; Westwood & Satchell p.110 - "Generally attributed to Robert Howlett " the author of The School of Recreation (London: 1696) and The Royal Pastime of Cockfighting (London: 1709), though W. & S. allow that "there is certainly little or no similarity between the above work and the angling treatise in the `School of Recreation.'" They note a close resemblance to James Chetham's The Angler's Vade Mecum (London: 1681). The sporting aspects of angling are combined with the commercial prospects, and the running title is "Angling Improved: Or, Profit and Pleasure." The copper-engraved plates depict twelve varieties of fish, and on the frontispiece, two fishermen trying their skill in a stream. Bookplate of F.W. Sims.
