The Collection of 18th Century Tokens formed by Dr David L Spence George III, Thanksgiving at St Paul’s, 1789, medals (5), viz. by J. Davies in copper, bust right, rev. radiation above arms of the City of London, 29mm, 7.27g/12h (DH 930; BHM 297; Storer 6192; Hawkins 19); by J.H. & Co [perhaps John Hume & Co], in brass, rev. the general thanksgiving, etc, 25mm, 4.71g/12h (DH 936; BHM 309; Storer 6189; Hawkins 6); by C. James, in white metal, rev. radiation above arms of the City of London, 30mm, 9.87g/12h (DH 176; BHM 294; Hawkins 22); by J. Milton (2), revs. somewhat similar, in silver, 10.42g/12h, in brass, 11.85g/12h, both 33mm (both DH 177; Stainton 7; BHM 295; Hawkins p.77) [5]. First very fine, second good fine, others about extremely fine and better, fourth toned (£90-120) Footnote Provenance: All except *DH 177 silver Fawcett/Litman Collection, additionally: DH 930 F.W. Lincoln Collection, Glendining Auction, 12-13 February 1936, lot 284 (part) [from Verity]. By royal proclamation Thursday 23 April 1789 was observed as a day of general thanksgiving for the King’s return to health. The royal family, members of Parliament and the corporation of London attended a service in St Paul’s Cathedral
