The Dr. Dick Schulenburg Collection of Golf related Philately, It is an impossible task to do justice in any attempt to summarise the Schulenburg collection and we highly recommend personal viewing to truly appreciate this collection. It is contained within eleven volumes of Dr. Schulenburg's enthusiastic pursuit of all kinds of philatelic items relating to golf - stamps (perfect, imperfect, souvenir sheets, colour proofs), First Day Covers, Commemorative Covers, postal stationery cards and covers, slogan and slogan meter cancels, airletters, and a very generous sprinkling of signatures by golfers, stamp designers and administration. The range of items is comprehensive all are neatly presented on album pages with detailed explanatory notes and illustrations. Contained within this collection are a number of items with impressive pedigrees. There is no room to detail each item, but some of the highlights of the collection include the following:* Open Championship Commemorative Covers 1968-94 (except 1972 when there was no Cover produced, and 1969 and 1971 when only slogan cancels were used). Included is the scarce Cover for 1976, and the four Covers issued in 1968 with each signed by Cotton and Ben Hogan (previous winners at Carnoustie) and Player the '68 Champion - a rare quartet of covers; also the 1983 Cover signed by four previous winners at Royal Birkdale, Thomson, Palmer, Trevino and Miller, as well as the '83 Champion Watson. * The 1991 St. Vincent 'Famous Golfers' Collective Sheet of eight golf greats and signed by seven of those depicted (Bobby Jones deceased) - Player, Nicklaus, Faldo, Norman, Ballasteros, Olazabel and BEN HOGAN (only eleven such sheets are known to exist)* The 1990 Senior Skins Tournament (Mauha Resort, Hawaii) Programme signed by the four participants, Palmer, Player, Nicklaus, Trevino.* South Africa 1976 Player stamp, first golf related stamp to show a golfer, several examples on cover signed by Player, and one cover signed by Dr. Piet Koomhof the Minister of Sport. Also the 1979 Gary Player Roe stamp, several on covers signed by Player and the stamp designed Hantie de Klerk.* An illustrated Commemorative Cover for the official opening of the Augusta National Golf Club in 1933.* A number of complete sheets of stamps including the 1981 Bobby Jones and the Babe Zahanias stamps, and the fairly scarce 1991 Tonga complete sheet of 10 setenant pairs divided by a central gutter with five vertical progressive colour proofs.
