Chamberlain, Jr. Date: 1888-89 Description: 20 issues: Vol. III Nos.3-12 [Jan.-Oct. 1888] and Vol. IV, Nos. 1-9 and 12 [Nov. 1888-July 1889 and Oct. 1889]. Original wrappers, stapled at spine. Some illustrations. Varying from 8 to 32pp. each. A wealth of information for collectors and aficionados of gems, minerals, meteorites, fossils, Indian relics and ancient artifacts. Besides the ads and mineralogy auction results, includes a broad range of articles such Metal Art of Ancient Mexico, A Trip from San Francisco to Yellowstone Park (by a French archaeologist), Northwestern Gold Fields, Gold on Alaska Islands, a new Mexican Mastodon, Gold Ornaments from Colombia, Diamonds in Georgia, Mummies Dirt Cheap, Gold and Silver Ornaments from the Mounds of Florida, Easter Island, Precious Stones of Ceylon, Pocket-Mining in California, Origin of Petroleum and Arrow Poison. In 1890, the magazine was renamed “Mineralogists’ Monthly” with a more narrow focus. Very rare in this early format. Five institutions list the title, but only the New York Public Library seems to hold copies of these issues. Lot Amendments Condition: Mild wear; very good. Item number: 249430
