The first edition, published in 1857, was the first book of prose devoted entirely to the game of golf, and also the first book of instruction - Murdoch 415; Donovan & Murdoch 1142. Owner's inked signature, "J.E. Burton"? dated Oct. 1873, St. Andrews on top front cover. Lot Amendments Condition: Some soiling and light edge wear, a few faint stains including and small circular one on the front cover; front hinge tender, mild foxing; else very good or better and still bright.
