Francis Cunningham Each with a stipple-engraved portrait vignette on the title page. 7x4¾, late nineteenth century red morocco, ruled in gilt, spines tooled and lettered in gilt, raised bands, dark blue-green endpapers, inner gilt dentelles, all edges gilt, each with a different fore-edge painting. Bound by Waddie & Co., Edinburgh. Volume I fore-edge shows a portrait of a young Ben Jonson with other surrounding vignettes, including a mask and a heraldry shield and his name lettered. Volume II fore-edge shows the London Bridge (which is lettered) with a few boats in the water and various buildings. Volume III fore-edge titled “Every Man in his Humour 1598” showing two monkey’s both holding long pipes (one is smoking and sitting on a chair, the other is standing on a chess board with playing cards nearby), plus other surrounding vignettes. All three nicely painted, circa turn of the nineteenth century. Dedication page in Volume I dated 1816. Lot Amendments Condition: Occasional minor nicks to edges; a few foxing spots and other minor wear; else a nice and clean set; near fine or better. Item number: 167871
