Title: Three-dimensional embossed chromolithographed portrait of Abraham Lincoln Author: Place: No place Publisher: Date: 1909 Description: 26x21.5 cm. (10¼x8½"), on original dated paper backing, in period decorated wood frame under glass. Uncommon three-dimensional chromolithographed portrait of the 16th president. The image was made from the famous photograph by Anthony Berger of the Brady Gallery, take on February 9th, 1864. Thirty years after his father's death, Robert Todd Lincoln wrote that "I have always thought the Brady photograph of my father [i.e. this image]... to be the most satisfactory likeness of him." The image was the model for the engraving of Lincoln used for many years on the five dollar bill, since replaced. The mount with the date printed in the lower margin, "1809 - 1865 - 1909." See Ostendorf Colletion, O-92. Lot Amendments Condition: Frame with a little bit of separation at the joints; very good or better, a striking image in an interesting period frame.
